WHO Are we now?

I was initially captivated by the fantasy of an untouched land—Mongolia—that I had never visited or experienced before. As a foreigner or visitor, I wondered: How much of the local culture can I truly grasp and adapt to?

I was intrigued by the natural environment and the lifestyle of the Mongolian people. However, while I am curious about the natural environment, I also long for city life and connections with people.

The idea for my work was inspired by my family's settlement in New Zealand as immigrants. It reflects the creation of a new culture or a blending of cultures with limited understanding and knowledge. 'Visitation' is a welcoming lounge with a picturesque view, which reflects the ideal modern home setting that we aspire to have. My work represents the interplay between our fantasies and the realities of adapting to a new culture and place.
